Celebrating our PVP Assistant Principal

Since October is National Assistant Principal Month we thought it would be nice to celebrate our PVP Assistant Principal, Craig Pearson.  Thank you for all you do Mr. Pearson!  We asked him if he could share a little bit about his life outside of PVP so we could get to know him better.  Here is Mr. Pearson behind the scenes…

My name is Craig Pearson and this is my 2nd year at Pleasant Valley Primary in the Assistant Principal Role, although last year I was technically considered an intern while I finished up my certification program. Prior to arriving at PVP, I was a 6th grade teacher at Daybreak Middle School for 3 years.

Prior to Daybreak Middle School I have had a wide range of experiences both in education and working for a small business. I taught in Oregon from 2005 – 2012 where I taught all middle school grades and most middle school subjects and electives. In 2012, the business my wife works for moved up to Vancouver and we decided to move our family to Camas. During our transition I worked for a small business for two years until I received my state of Washington certification and was then hired at Daybreak.

I am married to my wife Sarah who is a COO of a real estate investment firm headquartered out of Vancouver. We have two amazing children (I know, that’s what all parents say). My daughter’s name is Halle and she just turned 7. She is currently in 1st grade and loves all things fairies, mermaids and unicorns which serves me well as I am able to hold my own while conversing with all the young female students at PVP around these topics. Our son Luke just turned 2 and is pretty much into anything around the house that he shouldn’t be… so that is fun! One of my proudest moments is when Luke sees anything football related on TV or anywhere else and he looks at me and says “Go Ducks…”OOOOOO”. I know, I am in the wrong part of the region, but my family does cheer for the Oregon Ducks and I proudly wear green and yellow to school on Fridays quite regularly. We have a dog (puggle) named Bailey who just turned 12 and we are still waiting for her to grow out of the puppy stage that was supposed to end around ages 2 or 3! Yep, still waiting.

I truly enjoy sports, specifically basketball, golf, tennis and running and have coached several sports at the middle school and high school level (boys and girls basketball, tennis, track and field). I am taking on a new coaching role this fall as my wife and I will coach my daughter’s first grade basketball team. I am both excited and scared for this experience as it is a new realm of sports for me and my competitive nature. I am really into running…I say that and actually haven’t run for about a year now when I stop and think about it. I have completed three marathons, several half marathons, as well as several relay races such as Hood to Coast.

Last year was an amazing first year at PVP. I feel blessed to be part of a community with such amazing staff, students, and families. After being part of many schools and communities, I can honestly say this place is truly special!
