KINDNESS TREE

In an attempt to make our Second Step learning themes more prominent and integrated in our school, we have introduced our “Second Step Tree” on a bulletin board across from atrium. This tree will change with the seasons and connect with Second Step units: skills for learning, empathy, emotion management., friendship skills, problem-solving. In January the tree was a recap of the units Learning Skills and Empathy. Students created “personal goal” snowballs, writing goals that will support them to be a better student or friend. As students pass the area each day they can connect the Second Step learning that has taken place in the classroom to the school-wide message they see on the Seasonal Second Step Tree.

Below are some Quotes from the Kindness Tree…

  • My goal is to learn all one hundred sight words
  • I will be a better student by being more assertive
  • I can be a better friend by making others feel better
  • I can be a better friend by helping someone if they fall
